NODE

A desktop research browser that reads the page you are on and suggests what to read next.

What it is

NODE is an open-source desktop browser built for research rather than browsing. A research agent works in the background from the page you are reading, Mosaic shows several live tabs at once instead of one at a time, and keyword chips control what it searches with. It is built in Electron and plain JavaScript, and it is in open beta.

The motion system

Over three days in October I audited every element in NODE that changes state, set eight motion tokens and a short rule set, wrote them into the NODE design system, prototyped all eight interactions on copies of NODE’s own controls before any code changed, and built them one commit at a time. Three of them are written up in the Lab, picked because the technique carries beyond NODE.
